Welcoming Jennifer Baszile as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Career Success.

April 29, 2019

To: UC Santa Cruz campus community
Fr: Vice Provost Jaye Padgett

I'm writing to share exciting news. The campus will soon welcome Jennifer Baszile, who will serve in a newly created position as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Career Success and Executive Director of the Career Center within the Division of Student Success. Jennifer’s start date will be July 1.

This position was created to help catalyze our already strong partnerships across the campus and beyond. With the strategic plan successfully completed under the leadership of  Barbara Silverthorne, the Career Center is now poised to enhance the career readiness of our students and better engage our many partners, including regional, national, and international employers.

Jennifer’s varied career in higher education as an award-winning faculty member and administrator gives her a unique perspective on career success for today’s students. Her deep experience and leadership around student success and equity make her an uncommon fit for our campus mission. She comes to UC Santa Cruz from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut where she has served as Dean of Student Success and Career Development since 2017. Many members of our community were involved in the recruitment process. I would like to acknowledge the search committee: Manel Camps, Rachel Deblinger, Judith Estrada, Aaron Jones, Shayna Kent, and Danielle Mello. I'm also grateful for the very able guidance and assistance of Lucy Rojas in the search process, and for Lezlie Ward's wonderful support. Finally, I want to thank the many members of our student, staff, faculty, and alumni communities who participated in this search process, and for giving us your feedback on the candidates.

I hope you'll join me in welcoming Jennifer in July.
