Subject: Resources available to you on the eve of the inauguration

Dear Slugs,

I am writing on the eve of the Presidential inauguration to let you know you are on my mind and on the minds of staff throughout campus. These last few weeks have been tumultuous to say to the least. Many of you may be experiencing stress related to the events that unfolded at the Capitol, and having feelings about not knowing what to expect tomorrow and beyond. I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge these feelings and let you know that we are here to support you. Below you will find some activities and resources that are available to you.

Slug Support:

Slug Support will be available for drop in appointments to assess any immediate needs and connect students to events happening on campus and to CAPS. Students can send an email to deanofstudents@ucsc.edu, call the crisis line at (831) 459-7003, or visit our Zoom front desk staffed by student ambassadors.

UCSC Resource Centers:

The Resource Centers have created a virtual lounge for the UCSC community to come together and share space during the Presidential inauguration. Students can come and go as they please, and stay for as long as they wish. The lounge will be open from 9:00am - 3:30pm using bit.ly/resourcecenterslounge or by clicking here.

CAPS (Counseling and Psychological Services):

CAPS is available to help students navigate these difficult times and can be contacted at (831) 459-2628 or by visiting their full list of services on their website. In light of the inauguration, CAPS will be holding an additional “Let’s Talk” group session on Wednesday, January 20th from 1:00pm - 2:00pm. Join by clicking here.

I encourage you to reach out to our campus resources should you find yourself in a space where you need or want support.

In community.

Garrett
