Men of Color program

The Men Of Color (MOC) program is designed to serve men of color with a specific focus on Black men through a sustained experience and with particular emphasis on successfully launching incoming frosh and transfer students at UC Santa Cruz. MOC is a comprehensive set of holistic services grounded in a brotherhood model with a focus on academic success, strengthening, and promoting a sense of belonging and well being, and using an assets-based approach to engage participants in order to improve retention.

Activities completed with student success funds from fall through spring quarter included: Mentorship Training, an MOC retreat centering on brotherhood and deconstructing masculinity, 6 community nights driven by cohort interests & needs, a seminar series, EOP academic holistic advising, weekly mentor meetings, providing textbooks to participants through the EOP Textbook Lending Library, study sessions, and hiring mentors for 2017-18. Overall, in 2016-17, 18 Black male students were supported by this program.
